The following message by Michael Reeves was given at the Serious Joy: The 36th Bethlehem Conference for Pastors: “I Will Build My Church: Christ’s Promises for his People.”
As God sends out Christ as the life and delight of the saints—the Bridegroom that the Bride is invited to enjoy—so we send him out in our preaching.
The very one who has given us such great comfort, is the very same one who gives us such a great commission. Looking to Jesus, we not only remember the good news of the gospel, we herald it.
What is the most urgent need of the church today? Better leadership? Better training? Healthier giving? Orthodoxy? Moral integrity? Each of these are undoubtedly needs, but underneath them all lies something even more vital: gospel integrity.
Mission is no clunky add-on to your own delighting in God. Instead, it is the natural overflow and expression of the enjoyment you have of him so that, like him, you gladly go out to fill the world with the word of his goodness.
